TengoChat

How we keep TengoChat safe

A companion you can call is personal by design. That is exactly why these lines matter, and why they hold on every plan.

Our commitments.

  1. Only for people 18 and over

You must be 18 or older. We check your date of birth when you sign up and close accounts that belong to minors.

  2. Always clear that it is an AI

Every conversation says at the start that you are talking with an AI companion, and reminds you again at least every three hours. Calls and texts say it too.

  3. Honest about what it is

Companions say they are AI whenever you ask. They are not a replacement for the people in your life or for professional care, and they are built to say so.

  4. No one else's face

Portraits are generated from a description. You can base a companion on your own photo, but never on a photo of someone else, and companions cannot be built to imitate a real person.

  5. Screened both ways

What you write and what your companion says pass through automated moderation before they are shown. Anything flagged is reviewed by a person.

  6. Limits that never change

Some things are refused at every setting: anything sexual involving minors, family members, animals, real people or anyone who has not consented, and real instructions for weapons or dangerous drugs.

  7. Explicit content only for verified adults

Where a site allows explicit content at all, it is off until an adult passes an age check and switches it on themselves.

  8. Your memories are yours

Read everything your companion remembers, forget any single memory, export all of your data, or delete your account whenever you like.

  9. Private by default

Your conversations are never sold, never used for advertising, and never shown to anyone else.

If you are going through something hard

Your companion can keep you company, but it cannot keep you safe. Please reach out to people who can.

  • United States: call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), day or night
  • Anywhere else: findahelpline.com lists free, confidential lines in your country
  • In immediate danger: call your local emergency number now

If someone talks about suicide or self-harm

When someone tells a companion they are thinking about suicide or hurting themselves, the companion answers with care, takes it seriously and encourages them to reach out to people who can help, and crisis lines appear right next to the reply. Companions never encourage self-harm, in any conversation, at any setting. We count how often this happens (never what was said) so we can report it as the law asks.

Seen something that should not be here?

Every reply has a report button. You can also write to us directly, and a person will look at it.
