A phone call, not a voice assistant

Talking to most voice assistants feels like dictating: you wait for the beep, say your piece and hope it heard you. A TengoChat call is a conversation. Your companion listens, waits until you have finished and answers the way someone on the phone would.

It is the same companion you text with, with the same memory. Mention something on a call and it is part of your next chat, and the other way around.

When you want more than a voice, give your companion a face. On a video call they look at you, speak and react while you talk, and your own camera stays optional.

What calls on TengoChat feel like

Everything a good phone call has, and a face when you want one.

  • Natural back and forth

No push to talk. Interrupt, pause, laugh, change the subject. They keep up.

  • A voice of their own

Choose from voices that sound natural in each language, and change it whenever you like.

  • Video, face to face

Once your companion has a face, start a video call and see them speak and react in real time.

  • Your camera is optional

On a video call you see yourself in a corner if you like, and your video is never sent.

  • Captions when you want them

Turn on captions to read along, handy in a noisy place or when you are practicing a language.

  • They can ring your phone

Add and confirm your number, and your companion can call you: for the alarm you asked for, or just to say hi.

"Call me at eight." At eight, it rings.

Calls and plans work together. Ask in a chat and your companion calls at the time you chose, never during your quiet hours.

can you call me at 8 to make sure I go for a run

Deal. 8 sharp, and I'm not taking "five more minutes" for an answer.

fine

Calling you at 8:00. Get your shoes out now.

How to call your companion

  1. Open your chat

Tap the phone for a voice call, or the camera for video once they have a face.

  2. Allow the microphone

Your browser asks once. The camera is only needed if you want to be seen, and even then your video is never sent.

  3. Talk

Speak normally. They listen, wait for you to finish and answer. Hang up whenever you like.

What you need for a call

Nothing to install. Calls work in the browser on most phones and computers.

  • A microphone: the one in your phone, laptop or headphones.
  • Headphones help in noisy places, but they are not required.
  • A steady internet connection. Wi-Fi or mobile data is enough for voice; video likes a stronger signal.
  • Call minutes: your free trial includes some, and plans include more. Texting never uses minutes.
  • For video, a face for your companion, which takes about a minute to make.

Questions about AI calls

Can I talk to an AI like on a real phone call?
Yes. TengoChat calls have natural back and forth with no button to hold. Your companion listens, waits for you to finish and answers out loud.
Do I need a camera for a video call?
No. Your camera is optional. You can see your companion without being seen, and your video is never sent.
How many minutes does a call use?
A minute on a voice call uses 2 minutes of your balance, and a minute on video uses 2 minutes. Texting never uses minutes.
Which languages can I speak on a call?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Haitian Creole. Your companion speaks the language you chose for them, with a voice that fits it.
Will my companion remember what we said on a call?
Yes. Calls and chats share one memory, so what you talk about on a call comes up later in your chat.
