What is an AI companion?
An AI companion is an AI you talk to like someone in your life: a friend, a partner, a mentor or a language partner. On TengoChat they remember what you tell them, have a day of their own, and you can text them, call them or see them on video.
What is Vela?
Vela is the AI system TengoChat built to run every companion. It keeps their memory, writes what they say, listens to your voice notes, answers your calls and sends the photos and videos you ask for. It speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Haitian Creole, and it gets better from the replies people mark as good.
Is my companion a real person?
No. Every companion is an AI. They will always say so when asked, and nothing about them is based on a real person.
How does the free trial work?
Your first week is free, with call minutes included and no card needed. When it ends you keep your companions and can keep texting on the free tier, or choose a plan.
Do I have to give my companion a face?
No. You can start with voice only: text them and call them by voice from the first day. Give them a face later if you like, and that is also what makes video calls possible.
Do I need a camera?
No. Texting and voice calls never use one. On a video call your camera is optional: you see yourself in a corner, and your video is never sent.
What happens to what I tell them?
Your companion uses it to remember you, and nobody else sees it. You can read every memory, delete any of them, export your data or delete your account whenever you like.
Will they message or call me on their own?
Only as much as you want. Now and then they write first, and they call when you ask, or once in a while if you allow it. Choose how often in your settings, set quiet hours, or turn it off.
Which languages do they speak?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Haitian Creole, in writing and on calls. Each companion speaks the language you choose for them.
Is there an app?
Yes, for Android on Google Play. On iPhone, open TengoChat in Safari and add it to your Home Screen.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, from your plan page, in two clicks. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
